Holly, but no ivy ..

Holly, but no ivy ..

Good morning all! It's Deborah here with you today. I was going through my Christmas card stash at the weekend and realised that I needed to make some more cards, quite a lot actually. I used the lovely Big & Bold - Holly & Berries stamps from Colorado Craft Company to make three cards. I used three different techniques for the cards and I'll start with the most clean and simple card.

For this card I simply stamped the holly & berry image directly on a 5¾" square white card. I used Versafine Onyx Black ink and embossed with clear powder. I used some shimmer watercolour paints for the image. I mixed a couple of shades of green for the leaves, and a couple of red for the berries. I set the image aside to dry and allow the natural variation in shades to appear. I finished the front by adding one of the sentiments from the stamp set.

On the inside, I kept things very simple. I used a couple more of the sentiments and stamped the holly leaves and berries in the corner. For my next card I used paper piecing. This is such a fun technique and a really good way of using up any scraps of design paper you might have in your stash (I have lots).

I used a standard US A2 card and stamped the large image towards the top of the card. I found some scraps for green and red paper and stamped each piece in black Versafine, embossed with clear powder and then fussy cut out the layers. I started by attaching the twig, then the dark green leaf at the top, followed by the patterned leaf, the berries and finally the large paler green leaf. Before adhering each piece of paper, I edged the pieces with a black marker pen. I finished the front with another of the greetings from the stamp set.

On the inside of this card, I cut a mat layer of red design paper and on the white panel stamped a Christmas greeting - and I'm humming it as I type!! Once again, the holly is stamped in the corner. My last card is another larger square card. This time I coloured the image with Copic markers.

For this card I stamped the image on white card, coloured it with Copic markers, put it back in my stamper positioner, inked with Versafine and then heat embossed with clear powder. I fussy cut the image and edged it with a black marker. I cut a piece of design paper for the front of the card, adhered the cut out image and finished with another of the Christmas sentiments from the stamp set.

On the inside I this card, I used a matching piece of design paper for the mat layer, and on the white card added a greeting and the holly leaves and berries.

I really like these big, bold images from Colorado Craft Company (you may remember me using the large snowflake earlier this year). The stamp image is large enough for a big card, or can be used selectively on smaller cards. And you can you any technique you like. I'll be making more cards using this set very soon.

That's all from me today. Thanks so much for staying with me to the end. See you next week.
