2020 Spring/Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

Today I'm joining in with the 2020 Spring/Summer Coffee Lovers Blog Hop so naturally my project has a drinks based theme.  If you're new to the hop then click the link HERE to join from the beginning - there are lots of prizes to be won, including a £15 voucher to spend in our store as we are one of the super sponsors!

I'm missing being able to just call for a coffee with friends at our fave cafes so I thought I'd thought I'd send them a card instead and the a la modes Miss You A Latte from MFT was the perfect fit for that and the hop theme too!

I wanted to use one of my favourite techniques as I've not done it in a while - paper piecing - so I hit my scraps box to select some papers to play with.   I started with her trousers and that's my top tip for paper-piecing - pick a paper that has lots of colours for one element and then pull all your other papers from those colours and hten you'll have a cohesive design even if the papers don't come from the same collection.  So I added a lime green top and headband (fiddly to cut but I love fiddly cutting projects) orange and teal on the cups and shoes and more lime and the soft teal in the background so although there are lots of fancy patterns there are only 5 colours other than skin and hair.

The background was created by ink blending through the MFT Oval Extraordinary stencil using Shabby Shutters and Iced Spruced Distress Oxide inks.   I stamped the sentiment over the top with Versafine Clair Warm Breeze but it wasn't as strong on top of the oxide as it was on the white so I used a very sharp pencil in the same shade to trace over the lighter letters.  You could just stamp onto a scrap of card instead!

Hope that's inspired you to pull out some colourful scraps and get paper-piecing!    Enjoy the rest of the hop.

I'll be back on Sunday with my regular post and news round-up.
